Kinani – Contemporary dance biennial brings more than 25 shows to Maputo

As the dates for Mozambique’s largest contemporary dance event, Kinani, approach, the organization confirms that 27 shows will be held at various venues and spaces in the city of Maputo from November 24 to 30.

The Casa Velha Cultural Association was chosen as the festival’s headquarters, a choice justified by the fact that this space is “a historical cultural heritage site in the world of art and culture,” according to the organization.

For this edition, 27 shows are expected, with the participation of 14 established and emerging national companies and groups and 13 companies that will come to Mozambique to participate in the event. At the heart of these pieces is the exchange of synergies and experiences between various social actors in the search for short- and long-term solutions in the field of arts and culture.

Choreographers and artists from countries such as Angola, Madagascar, South Africa, Europe, Portugal, France, Spain, Norway, and Switzerland, as well as Brazil and Canada, will come to Kinani 2025.

In addition to the central venue, Casa Velha, performances will be held in spaces that usually host Kinani, the 4th floor, the Franco-Mozambique Cultural Center, the Avenida Theater, Cinema Scala, including venues such as Capela da Ronil (Cemetery) and Correios de Moçambique, with the shows turning these locations into “a body where different realities converge to form a single show of love for art.”
