“Djidiundadi: Timelessness and Utopias” is the theme chosen for the 2nd edition of Guinea-Bissau’s largest artistic and cultural event, already confirmed for 2027. A breath of culture amid the political crisis the country is currently facing.
The announcement was made during a public event marking the beginning of a new cycle of programming and preparations for the MoAC Biss 2027 Biennale, an initiative aimed at promoting artistic and cultural reflection on the multiple temporalities that shape Guinean society.
According to literature curator Zaida Pereira, the theme selected for this edition refers to orality and the appreciation of collective memory.

“The choice of the theme ‘Djidiundadi: Timelessness and Utopias’ invites us to revisit orality, collective memory, and ancestral knowledge as fundamental elements of our cultural identity,” said Zaida Pereira.
Meanwhile, António Spencer Embaló, curator for conferences and public policies, stressed that the Biennale seeks to establish itself as a permanent space for dialogue and cultural creation.
“The Bissau Art and Culture Biennale aims to consolidate itself as a space for encounter, reflection, and artistic creation, contributing to positioning Guinea-Bissau within the contemporary art landscape, with the active participation of all sectors of society,” said António Spencer Embaló.

Recently, however, the organisers of MoAC Biss 2027 announced that, starting in May 2027, the Biennale will join the BIENALSUR network — one of the world’s largest circuits dedicated to art, culture, and contemporary thought, present in 76 cities across 34 countries and five continents.
