Miami Art Week focuses on “Global Africa”

During Art Basel Miami Beach 2023 and Miami Art Week 2023, African diasporas will take centre stage through a programme entitled “Art of Transformation: AFRICA GLOBAL” by Ten North Group. 

The annual programme is designed to explore issues of contemporary African art and the African diaspora and brings artists of African descent from around the world to Miami in a series of exhibitions, panel discussions, performances and film screenings. 

From 3 to 10 December, the theme of the Art of Transformation will be explored through a series of exhibitions, panel discussions, performances and film screenings in the architecturally distinctive town of Opa-locka, Florida.

The arts festival offers five exhibitions, including Fragmented Worlds/Coherent Lives, curated by Tumelo Mosaka (South Africa). This show explores themes of fragmentation, mobility and adaptation, presenting thought-provoking works that resonate with the complexities of the African Diaspora experience.Programme events include Landscape Noir, a conversation about how art can be a catalyst for transforming previously forgotten communities. In addition, there is a Performance & Voguing Workshop with Afro-Caribbean artist Edrimael Delgado Reyes, an Afro-Cuban dance performance by the IFE-ILE Dance Company and a main event with a panel discussion led by curator Tumelo Mosaka, followed by artist Glorimar. Film screening by Marrero Sánchez exploring themes of mourning, identity, colonialism and gender.
