Cameroon establishes climate innovation center to promote green development

The Cameroon Climate Innovation Hub (CAMCIH), a non-governmental organization focused on advancing climate innovation and sustainable development, was officially inaugurated at ICT University in Yaoundé.

Located within the university, the center seeks to enhance research, technology, and green entrepreneurship to provide practical responses to Cameroon’s environmental and economic challenges.

According to Tech In Africa, the CMCIH will be an incubation and collaboration hub for researchers, young innovators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers. It will drive the creation of local solutions in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, waste management, and urban resilience, as well as offer training and capacity-building programs to equip young people with technical and entrepreneurial skills for green technologies.

The launch comes after growing climate challenges in Cameroon, marked by frequent flooding, droughts in the north, and reduced agricultural productivity. The Global Center for Adaptation (GCA) warns that without effective adaptation strategies, the country risks losing 4% to 10% of its GDP by 2050.

CAMCIH’s main mission is to establish Cameroon as a regional hub for climate innovation, transforming scientific research into economic opportunities. With a focus on green technologies and youth-driven innovation, the initiative seeks to strengthen climate resilience while promoting sustainable and inclusive development.
