O’Reilly’s 2024 technology trends report reveals an impressive 3,600% increase in interest in GPT and Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), signalling a paradigm shift into the new era of technology.
Generative AI (Gen AI) has seen an unprecedented rise in interest among developers, with involvement in GPTs – a family of AI models – increasing by 3,600 per cent year on year.
O’Reilly’s annual Technology Trends to 2024 report reveals which technological tools are increasing in popularity and which are decreasing, allowing organisational leaders to stay informed and identify emerging trends that could shape their business strategies in the future.
Although linked to the emergence of ChatGPT at the end of 2022, the growth of GPT models is also a reflection of developers’ focus on building APIs for GPT and other language models.
As a result, natural language processing continues to be the most consumed AI topic and has seen a significant increase in usage (195%). Related topics, such as generative and transformative modelling, also saw huge gains, increasing by 900% and 325% respectively. Immediate engineering, a topic that didn’t exist in 2022, quickly emerged as a significant area of interest, attracting almost the same level of attention as transformers.
Safety is another topic that has seen major gains in interest among developers, especially with the rise of Gen AI, with almost all related research topics showing growth from 2022 to 2023.
