The MFF created an interdisciplinary Academy, designed as a center of knowledge and creativity that promotes innovation, collaboration, and knowledge production in different areas. The Academy also seeks to strengthen international networks and partnerships, especially between Africa and other continents.
As one of the three pillars of the MFF: Festival, Academy, and Publications, it is structured into two interconnected branches: Research and Residencies.
Tools for imagining futures. Space for digital training, production, and experimentation.
At once a space, a laboratory and a training centre, the Creative Digital Hub opens up access to immersive technologies — XR, 3D and artificial intelligence. Built on a collaborative, open-source model, it shares its tools and its know-how with its partners, brings creatives and technologists together, and the work produced there feeds MFF’s projects, right through to the festival stage.
O Maputo Fast Forward (MFF) é uma plataforma multidisciplinar que visa desenvolver a criatividade e a inovação em diferentes domínios, encorajar a colaboração entre estes, produzir conhecimento em diferentes formatos e alargar as redes e parcerias internacionais, com actores de outros países africanos e também de outros continentes.
Residences
A place where MFF trains as much as it produces, the residencies support emerging talent alongside a team of mentors and trainers. Their format adapts to each project and each partner — learning, exchange or laboratory residencies, running from a few weeks to several years — and the works that emerge are shown to the public, first and foremost on the festival stage.
The 3D Animation and Digital Production course — Eco Rebels is a pilot training program of the Maputo Fast Forward Digital Hub, implemented by FX Animation Studios at 16Neto, with the goal of empowering young people in the main tools and techniques of digital content production and 3D animation.
Research
The MFF Academy Research Center promotes interdisciplinary research based on African realities, encouraging creativity, innovation, and the production of local knowledge. The invitation is open to researchers, artists, scientists, technologists, and interdisciplinary teams to submit innovative projects in Mozambique.
